This book is one of the best self- help books of all time. This book was written by Napolean Hill who is considered as one of the greatest authors writing on success and productivity. In this book, the author helps you to discover and tap into the psychological power of your thoughts and your mind so that you can advance in your career and acquire riches. Napolean Hill came up with a philosophy of success after meeting, interacting and interviewing many great and successful people such as Andrew Carnegie and Thomas Edison. Napolean Hill also performed his twenty-year task of research which he had accepted at Mister Carnegie’s request and thus he analyzed hundreds of well-known men who had accumulated their vast fortunes the aid of the same philosophy that helped Mister Carnegie to become one of the richest men of his time. According to the author, those who master and apply this secret will reach high stations, accumulate riches, and attain noteworthy success in any field. Now, I will tell you about the thirteen principles of success and the chapters which I will try to summarize in my own words. Let’s get started. :-
Chapter 1.) INTRODUCTION (The Power of Thought)
“Truly thoughts are things, and powerful things at that, when they are mixed with definiteness of purpose, persistence, and a BURNING DESIRE for their translation into riches, or other material objects.” – Napoleon Hill Edwin C. Barnes discovered how to grow rich by the power of a BURNING DESIRE. His thoughts were those of a king. He succeeded because he chose his definite goal, placed all his energy, will power, all his effort, everything back of that goal. You should also know what you want and determination to stand by that desire you realize it and achieve it. Wishing will not bring riches. But desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to acquire riches, and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognize failure, will bring riches. Don’t quit three feet from Gold. Keep working and DIG AND GROW RICH. “Success comes to those who become Success Conscious.” – Napoleon Hill. “You are the master of your fate, The captain of your soul” – Henley You are the master of your fate and the captain of your soul because we have the power to control our thoughts. Have lust for your Desires and Goals. Convert temporary defeats and failures into steppingstones to opportunity to win.
Chapter 2.) DESIRE
“Desire is the starting point of all achievement.” – Napoleon Hill You should become a warrior and must be willing to burn your ships and cut all the sources of retreat in order to win. The burning desire to win is essential to success. You also need to have a desire which becomes an all- consuming obsession of your life to become rich. You then have to plan definite ways and means to acquire riches, backing those plans with persistence which does not recognize failure, will bring riches. The method by which desire for riches can be transmuted into its financial and monetary equivalent, consists of six definite steps as follows: – 1.) Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. It is not sufficient merely to say “I want plenty of money”. 2.) Determine exactly what product or service you intend to give for the money you desire. 3.) Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire. 4.) Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action. 5.) Write out a clear concise statement of the amount for money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it. 6.) Read your clear concise statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. As you read- see and feel and believe yourself already in possession of the money. “Money consciousness” means that the mind has become so thoroughly saturated with the DESIRE for money, that one can see one’s self already in possession of it.” You need to realize that in order to accumulate great fortune you have to do a certain amount of dreaming, hoping, desiring, and planning before you acquire money. “Success requires no apologies, failure permits no alibis.” – Napolean Hill Our limitations are only we set up in our own minds. Your desire can really make you rich.
Chapter 3.) FAITH
Faith is the head chemist of the mind and if blended with the vibration of thought, the subconscious mind can instantly pick up the vibration and translate it into its spiritual equivalent and transmit it to infinite intelligence. In order to induce and create faith you can use affirmation or repeated instructions to the subconscious mind. This principle is called Auto-suggestion. The element which determines the action of your subconscious mind is your belief, or faith. Have faith in yourself and faith in the infinite. Faith is the “eternal elixir ” which gives life, power and action to the impulse of thought! It is the basis of all miracles as well as the mysteries which even the rules of science cannot analyze. Any idea, plan or purpose can be easily placed in the mind through repetition of thought that your greatest weakness is lack of self-confidence. Every man is what he is, because of the dominating thoughts which he permits to occupy his mind. Thoughts which are mixed with any of the feelings of emotions, constitute a “Magnetic force which attracts, from the vibrations of the ether, other similar, related thoughts.” Life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger or faster man, but soon or late the man who wins is the man who thinks he can win.
Chapter 4.) AUTO-SUGGESTION
It is the medium for influencing the subconscious mind. Auto- Suggestion refers to a term which has to do with all suggestions and all self- administrated stimuli which reaches one’s mind through the five senses. In other words, Auto- Suggestion is simply self- suggestion. Auto – Suggestion is the medium or means for influencing the Subconscious mind which will help you to Grow rich. Nature has so built man that he has absolute control over the material control over the material which reaches his subconscious mind, through his five senses, although this is not meant to be constructed as a statement that man always exercises this control. In the great majority of instances, he does not exercise it, which explains why so many people go through life in poverty. Auto- Suggestion is the agency or way of control through which an individual voluntarily feeds his Subconscious mind on thoughts of creative nature in order to acquire riches. Use your imagination to help you to create practical plans for acquiring the money through transmutation of your burning desire.
Chapter 5.) SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE
There are two kinds of knowledge, general knowledge and specialized knowledge. General knowledge, no matter in what quantity is not much good to help you attain riches and attract money. Knowledge should be organized, and intelligently directed, through practical plans of action, to the definite end of accumulation of money. Knowledge is power only when, and if it is organized into definite plans of action, and directed to a definite end. The word education is derived from the Latin word “educo” meaning to educe, to draw out, to develop from within. You should create your own “Master Mind Group”. This “Master Mind Group” is a group of men, who possess knowledge useful in the accumulation of money, is it just as much as a man education as any man in the group. The way of success is the way of continuous pursuit of knowledge. There is no fixed price of sound ideas. Back of all ideas is specialized knowledge.
